Scotland Blooms in National Competition
Scottish cities, towns and villages displayed an array of flair and expertise to put themselves amongst the best in the UK at the 2008 Royal Horticultural Britain in Bloom Awards last night (24 September 2008).
The eight Scottish entrants were put forward against 69 other finalists for the UK wide competition after winning their categories in the national Beautiful Scotland competition – and all won top level awards – with four out of the 13 Gold Medals awarded going to Scottish communities.
The Scottish winners were:
- Alness - Gold Medal
- Aberdeen - Silver Gilt Medal
- Dyce - Silver Gilt Medal
- North Berwick - Silver Gilt Medal
- Scotlandwell - Silver Gilt Medal
- Falkland - Gold Medal, Category Winner (Large Village) and the Discretionary Local Roots Award for encouraging activities and links between local history and cultural diversity.
- Forres - Gold Medal, Category Winner (Town) and Discretionary Young People's Award for encouraging active participation from young people in the community.
- Perth - Gold Medal, Category Winner (Large Town), and winner of the Discretionary Floral Award for the best floral displays throughout the entry.
