Coastal towns surf to success in Beautiful Scotland campaign

Bridge of EarnThe coastal town of North Berwick in East Lothian has scooped the top award in the 2009 Beautiful Scotland campaign to discover the cleanest, most sustainable and beautiful community in Scotland. This is the second time that the town has won the Rosebowl Trophy, having also triumphed in 2007.

The coveted Rosebowl Trophy was presented to representatives from the town at an awards ceremony in the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen on Monday 21 September by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter Stephen. The main address was given by Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs who also presented a one off Homecoming Award to Cupar, Fife.

Rothesay on Bute received the Rosebowl Reserve Trophy, while Perth & Kinross villages Comrie took the Best Village Shield and Muthill the Best Village Runner Up trophy.

Medal certificates were also issued to groups at the award ceremony in recognition of their hard work under three themes, namely Horticultural Achievement, Environmental Responsibility and Community Participation.
